Normal? What is Normal Anyway?

Have you ever stopped to think about how many people are on this planet? Not the city or town you may live in, but the planet. Think about that for a second. I did a quick check (like really quick) and the estimated population of the earth is 7.7 BILLION. That means that there are over 7 BILLION people right now that are doing something similar to what you are currently doing but also vastly different. Now think about this. There are over 7 BILLION brains thinking over 7 BILLION thoughts, actions, decisions, and motives. A lot right? So my question to all of this is actually pretty simple. If there are so many different possibilities of thoughts and decisions, preferences and choices, then what exactly is "normal"?

What is normal? Society has created what it would like to consider the norm, or the basics that we should function by, live by, or maneuver within. Now, when I say society I do not mean the people you see or interactive with on Instagram. Nor do I mean your Facebook group or childhood friends and their friends. Society is a composition of everyone. And this means that what I am saying is that EVERYONE has created what we like to consider the norm. Whether it's eating in a certain order, or doing certain things a specific way, or achieving a certain desire or goal. We have determined that whatever the majority is doing should be called the norm, or normal. But is that normal? Is that REALLY normal? Again I ask what is normal?

I suppose normal would be what is not strange. And if it's strange it can not be normal but let's think about that a little. If it is strange it is not normal. But wouldn't it be strange to decide to do something, or behave a certain way, eat a certain way, dress a certain way because you are being told to? Wouldn't that be strange? Wouldn't it be a little strange to decide to imitate someone else than being yourself? So then maybe normal IS strange. Or maybe what we have decided to consider "normal" is stranger than what normal actually is. That may be a little confusing so let's go a little bit simpler but further into the rabbit hole.

What is normal is what we decide is normal for us. Essentially there is no normal. What you decide to do on your own is your norm. And if you decide to do something different than everyone else because you feel like it then that is more normal than conforming to everything else. Conformity is mostly a coping mechanism. It's a way to blend in and not stick out. Many decide this choice because they do not want to stand out or be ridiculed for being different. But that is actually the crazy thing. We are meant to stand out.

We are all meant to be different, in our own ways from each other. This means that you are meant to stand out, in your own way. While I can help you figure out your norm or what you want your norm to be, I should not manipulate your decision. Regardless of what you decide (as long as you are not hurting anyone else that is). So normal is not normal at all. The next time someone tells you you are not being normal or doing something normal that is fine. Your normal is not exactly the same as their normal. It would be even more abnormal if it was. And that is perfectly fine.

So go out and be strange, be weird, be bizarre, be you. Create your own "normal". Do not let the decisions or opinions of someone else dictate what you want to do. This is your life. And it would be strange to live your life according to how someone else is, when they are still living theirs and they decided to make their own normal in the process as well. Be different. And remember, there is nothing normal about what society has decided is normal.
